We are preparing our three-minute talk for the coursework. Use examples from graphical highlights and graphical abstracts from publishing houses and discussed examples.

The seminar

The warm-up 5-minute test

  1. Singular values decomposition and tensor product with demo (forget to show)
  2. The probabilistic nature of the error function
  3. Homework 2 discussion
  4. Homework 1 discussion

Resources

Step 4 YouTube video

Homework

  1. For your selected project write the motivational part using this template for Step 3 (the same link).
  2. Download the link to your homework here (the same link).
  3. Prepare your 3-minute talk:
    1. Write our speech
    2. Practice with a timer
    3. Any inspirational tricks (mirror, forest walking) are welcome

The next seminar

  1. Your slides will be shown (in random order)
  2. You will be asked to deliver your talk
    • The language of slides and your speech is up to you to decide
  3. The group will be asked to prepare questions for you
  4. There will be a short discussion of your work

Help for your slide 3

  1. Python and Matlab code for plots
  2. Elsevier's graphical abstract
  3. Visual Abstracts by Everly Ramos and Beatrice Concepcion, 2020 (also see their references)
  4. Elsevier's Artwork and media instructions

Don't for your slide 3

  1. Avoid abstract illustrations; it means
    • You can be able to put mathematical notations on any part of your plot
  2. Avoid to show complex network architectures:
    • As soon you put a black-box sequence be ready to explain its optimality
  3. Avoid advertising style of illustrations:
    • It shall deliver a clear explanation instead of joyful attraction
